What Is The New Madrid Fault Zone & Why Are People Concerned About It Splitting Off Part Of The U.S.

  • Have you ever wondered what the U.S. would look like if split in half?  Well according to a U.S. Geological Survey that was released if the worst occurs we just may find out.

It's not enough that our country is split in half politically now we have to worry about a literal split!

For those that are unaware of what the New Madrid Fault is let me explain. As many of you may already know the United States has quite a few fault lines lying underneath its beautiful surface. The most popular being the San Andres Fault out west.

While the San Andres is also a fault line they are watching there are reasons that they fear the New Madrid Fault more and that is because it is six times larger than the San Andreas and it covers portions of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

So let's take a look at what would happen and who would be severely affected by a rupture along this fault line.

Did not know that. Jacqueline Coley. I found out about Reelfoot Lake when I did some work in Tiptonville back in the mid 90s. The restaurant we ate at had the whole story on the back of the menus. Lol..

You are quite correct… the thing to plan for is soil liquafaction, a rerouting of the river and lots of rubble – that did happen the last time it ‘lost its temper’ and hissy-fit’d…

Doug Ferguson , with the state this country is in, there aren’t a lot of “innocents”.
You have people that “prepare”, and those who don’t.
Most of “those who don’t”, consider “those that do”, to be mindless ignorant rednecks, hillbillys ect.

With that said, those “those that don’t”, also tend to live off of “those that do” either passively thru forced taxation, failed social programs, etc. and refuse to do a darn thing for themselves or others.
Watch the news sometime, do some research, and look at the map.
Yes “innocents will die” no doubt.
So will a lot of guilty hooligans.
Any prepper worth his salt has already considered these things and already has a plan to get out, and hopefully get to a safe area. Some
Hooligans will escape, but a situation of this magnitude will mean resources will be stretched to the limits. Law enforcement? Ok yeah right. People will be taking the law into their own hands, and I guarantee that in areas that are “armed” people will become “polite”, quick, fast, and in a hurry.
      So yes, bring it.
The “politicians” sure as hell ain’t doing a damn thing to stop the BS going on in this country. Maybe, just maybe, Mother Nature, and the Hand of God will.
      So yes. Bring it.

It shook once in the 30 years I lived there. I slept through it and it knocked down 1 fence.

I remember it shook pretty hard in the 60s……the hospital where I worked had a huge crack on the 11th floor….they closed that area down until it could check for stability. It knocked over some china cabinets and some other furniture in homes. I remember that feeling very well….scary. I was living in Springfield, Il at the time.

last eruption was close to a 9.0 and no ocean front property. The fault is rather shallow, spider web like fractures which make it harder hitting than most quakes.

This is what Edgar Casey predicted. The Great Lakes would flow thru to the Gulf of Mexico and pour down the Mississippi.

That’s not how earthquakes work… there won’t be a giant canyon between the east and west, you’re just too hateful and ignorant to find that out for yourselves.

Why do say others are hateful and ignorant ?? You sound like the one being hateful……..smh

In 1812 after a large earthquake the Mississippi ran backward, a fluvial tsunami caused by earthquake. In 2012 it also ran backwards resulting from tidal swell of a hurricane. It happens allot, not just in an earthquake. In fact the Mississippi has changed reversed flow many times in history and it probably flowed northward after the ice age until ground thawed out and swelled to current elevation. Nothing abnormal about it
