What Is The New Madrid Fault Zone & Why Are People Concerned About It Splitting Off Part Of The U.S.

  • Have you ever wondered what the U.S. would look like if split in half?  Well according to a U.S. Geological Survey that was released if the worst occurs we just may find out.

It's not enough that our country is split in half politically now we have to worry about a literal split!

For those that are unaware of what the New Madrid Fault is let me explain. As many of you may already know the United States has quite a few fault lines lying underneath its beautiful surface. The most popular being the San Andres Fault out west.

While the San Andres is also a fault line they are watching there are reasons that they fear the New Madrid Fault more and that is because it is six times larger than the San Andreas and it covers portions of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi.

So let's take a look at what would happen and who would be severely affected by a rupture along this fault line.

West coast you have to worry about things like the Yellowstone Super Volcano, the San Andreas, the various volcanoes ot the Pacific North West, and tidal waves. The best places are already survivalist hot spots like Maine, Montana, and Texas.

Yep it’s going to happen it will change the world because apparently 70% of the words weat comes from the Central Plans

Looks good to me, let’s make this happen. I’d finally have some ocean front property.

The country is already split in half. It’s called the Mississippi River

    5. Dan Becker said:

Native Americans talk about the time the Mississippi ran backwards. If you have ever seen that river, the thought of the force required to do that is insane.

Reelfoot Lake in TN was made during that event.

According to the United States Geological Survey, Reelfoot Lake was formed when the region subsided during the 1811–12 New Madrid earthquakes.[1] The earthquakes resulted in several major changes in the landforms over a widespread area, with shocks being felt as far away as Quebec, Canada.

I call bullshit! Most of utah averages between 1-2 miles above sea level, and western Colorado that averages higher. The force to make this happen would wipe out every living thing. No need to prepare for survival.

They’ve been talking this$#%&!@*for over 150 years. Just like L.A. is going to slip into the Pacific.

…if that happen trump will come and stitch America … because he is the men who make America greate again 😛 😛 :v :v

I’m going to assume you mean the possibility of it splitting the continent in half is fake. Because the fault line is definitely real.

    11. Trent Long said:

Yeah.. and the entire midwest could sink and become an inland ocean again.

There have been more earthquakes registered in the last few years around the new Madrid fault line then any other time. So while I don’t believe we will have a split like the map shows, something is defiantly afoot…

The fracking is a factor, but the Yellowstone caldera/volcano IS WAY, WAY OVERDUE! Like POMPEII

Hell, the politicians have been doing it for years. Mother Nature couldn’t do any worse.

    14. Adam George said:

it would take a 9.5 or greater earthquake to divide land mass to this extent and that is extremely unlikely.

I agree with Jim. I live on the west side. Let’s hope if it happens that the San Andreas fault goes at the same time and we can get rid of that liberal stink hole called California.

Decimate….to kill one in 10…. still, that’s a huge loss.

please be along the Mason-Dixon line, that would solve so much of our problems

And Yellowstone volcano could blow and create a volcanic cloud that could cover the world, or a meteor could hit and destroy the planet , and the list goes on

According to my geology professor in college, we are overdue for the New Madrid fault to go off, which causes people like him to fear it’ll be a massive quake. The last big quake it had rang bell towers as far as Boston on New York. Brick structures in neighboring states collapsed, and a few towns were completely wiped off the map and submerged into rivers. But if this map pans out, I’ll only be a couple hours drive from the beach,
