Trump Lifting Military Gear Ban For Local Officers

  • What some are calling a controversial move by the Trump administration others are calling a life-saving decision for the men and women who serve as police officers protecting the streets of our nation.

In 2015 then President Barack Obama issued an executive order that halted the transfer of surplus gear from our nations' military to any police force.  This included items such as armored vehicles, grenade launchers, high-caliber weapons and camouflage uniforms. This order came directly following the controversy over the “militarization” of the police response to unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.

“These guidelines were created after Ferguson to ensure that police departments had a guardian, not warrior, mentality,” said Vanita Gupta, former head of DOJ's civil rights division under Obama and who now leads the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. “Our communities are not the same as armed combatants in a war zone.”

There are many ways that we can look at this situation. The National Fraternal Order of Police have some strong words about the prior administrations' decision and how this new change will affect our local police departments. So let's take a look at what the head of the NFOP and others had to say about this matter.

The thing is, this$#%&!@*wouldn’t matter if Americans citizens actually focused on local politics. If the American people actually took control of their own communities instead having their heads up the$#%&!@*of whichever president. They’d be in control of the police policies and all.

So Kevin Bodkins, you like cops with the ability to overpower any citizenry, with any means necessary, for whatever reason their bosses deam? Special kinda stupid eh?

Hate the laws… not the one who enforce them…. what a rube, lol. And to your response to my initial comment. Yes it happened once… but what happens far more often is a poorly trained officer killing an innocent with those weapons.

And before you spout off again…
We can make it a game to see who is right.
You post info about a cop stopping a crime in progress using this weaponry, and I’ll post one where they killed an innocent… lets see who can find more and actually prove their point.
      You up for it?
Or does your cognitive dissonance prevent you from playing along?

Also, since you love cops so much (that me thinks either you are one, or aspire to be one)

      Answer these questions…
Then tell me again how honorable the current duty of an officer is.

If they out gun the criminals, they can out gun the citizens..you’re a fool..and I’m not some 16yr old with limited life experience either..

    6. Gary Burris said:

Yeah, bet their not paying what your dealers, or private citizens do for those weapons either.. you’re rationilizing, at best

Douglas Oscar and what Justin did was not “spin” your words. He applied your logic to another similar situation. “hate the laws, not the enforcers”
But you don’t seem to understand logic, or personal responsibility. kinda typical of a faux “patriot” or faux republican. Your argument is tantamount to “they’re just following orders” which is the exact defense used in the Nuremburg trials. And they all hung, just like those who use the excuse now a days should.

Something the left and right can agree on, if for different reasons. No police state!

it means our nations citizens protectors are finally getting an even break with the bad guys.

the nations cowardly non-prosecuting judicial system contribution to organized crime is destroying america…. being more concerned with cash payoffs in place of prosecution justice.

until now, the bad guys were better equipt then the good guys.

america will not allow police state, and martial law will not happen, which means americas court system need to step up to responsibility of action.

I’m confused. They get ordered to stand down every time they “should” do something and have the resources. Now they need military capabilities for what?? To stand down some more? Or just arbitrarily go after everyone.

This is great… hat I want to know is where are the water cannons? They already have water canons… I’d pay to see some anti-soup!!

Following a law that would end freedom is something I doubt any LEO would participate in.

    14. Greg Luzietti said:

True enough! Bush, Obama, and now Trump all are handing excess military gear over to the police. And if they have it they’re gonna want to USE it. The reason is to protect the oligarchs from the masses once the ball really gets rolling, after the poor and working classes stop fighting each other

    15. Justin Bowers said:

What a bunch of pussies in here. You are crying at the thought of a police agency having a single armored vehicle which amounts to a giant bulletproof vest you can drive and you think this is how oppression happens? Really? I mean lets be real. What is one vehicle with no special offensive capabilities going to do in oppressing an entire populous of their jurisdiction. You all are fucking funny. When all patrol cars are replaced with MRAPs let me know, till then, go count “FEMA Coffins.”

america’s citizens will not allow police state, and martial law will not happen, which means what is left is for americas court system to step up to accountable responsibility of action to enforce written law!

Dana Lynn wait until law enforcement departments get filled with democrats who have no issue voting away our rights.

I hate to disagree with him, but a police state with these crazy pigs will kill many many innocent people.

    19. Douglas Oscar said:

Well Marshle Graham I don’t use that logic. I simply pointed his out

    20. Josh Vallager said:

Don Payson stats say crime is down. That’s from FBI and law enforcement data. Aside from the growing violent riots, actual violent crime is at a low. Just about every major city has a fully militarized swat team, that’s more than than what’s needed. If the police can have everything the soldiers are supposed to, than so should the rest of us.

Explain how they could possibly have martial law in America? There is less than 1.5 million members of the military. I guess they could take over Maine. Just Houston Texas alone has a population over 2 million. MANY members of the military have also said they will not take part. Sorry but I will sleep just fine, you should to because we are talking about things that will absolutely not even come close to happening in your lifetime. You can not control the American people by force you have to use fear and I ain’t worried about$#%&!@* I’m currently in the middle of the woods as I type this wilh all my friends cutting lanes and putting up hunting stands. I understand being informed, but there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Local law enforcement has no need for military equipment. It sends the wrong message to all involved

    27. Jay Reyes said:

      There was one instance Doug.

The North Hollywood shooting. From that point on police were allowed to carry assault rifles in their cars.

      Should be more than enough.

We don’t need a bunch of jittery Barneys on the street with military gear.

    28. Eric Anderson said:

Half the surplus is never used, and sits around collecting dust. Take my word for it.

    29. Tim Hayhurst said:

Gary Burris What cops are you talking about? I know plenty of police in my state and I can assure you they are regular people. I hunt, fish, and drink beer with them and I have zero worries of them trying to take my freedoms away. I’m sorry but if cops are your enemy maybe you are doing something wrong.

    30. Douglas Oscar said:

Well, usually after an incident like that there’s what they call a ” critique “. A way to discuss the matter to prevent it from happening again. Having our officers more prepared is one of those options.

The police and even the military will never ever be able to beat the people of this country when it comes down to it. Its clear as day you boot licking$#%&!@* And im a republican blue line supporter through and through.

    34. Dave Harris said:

Real patriots understand the police are the most dangerous, armed wing of the government. Bunch of government boot licking, paper patriots.

    35. Mike Herms said:

Douglas Oscar after reading alot of your responses you sir need to just stop it is one thing to back the blue it is another to blatantly drop to your knees and give them face like you have been law enforcement does not need military hardware a semi auto ar15 with a proper trained officer is way more effective but giving police departments this kind of fire power will only lead to more officers and civilians being hurt or killed if a person can not be trusted to walk the street then they should be put down same as we would a dog who bites people problem here is our prison system isn’t about rehab like it used to be now it is about the money most times if a person can afford bail they get probation and many thousands of dollars in fines which do nothing for the community just makes someone in the government’s pockets alittle heavier
