Tips and Tricks for Flat Roofs

  • These tips and tricks offer viable solutions for your flat roof problems. You can keep that modern style without having to worry about funding damages down the road. After all, this roof is what protects you from the elements and literally hangs over your head so you'll want to ensure that there isn't anything that could ultimately cause a weakening in its structure. If you're still unsure about sitting under a flat roof, then there's also a video tutorial below that explains how to replace it!

    1. Seal your roof leak with a waterproof sealant

If you have some leakages on your flat roof, first locate where the leak is. Once you’ve located the leak, apply an acrylic waterproof sealant to it.

    2. Lower the edge of your flat roof to drain the water off

Flat roofs mean water won’t go anywhere, unless the edges of the roof are angled for better drainage.

    3. Put a slope on your flat roof

Check with your local building department as to what is allowed and usually recommended for flat roofs. It’s advisable to have a slope of your roof about a quarter of an inch per foot.

    4. Be careful of flashing and siding

If you can’t find the source of the leak on the roof right away, it may be because of flashing or siding. Make sure to know the cause of the problem and use the most applicable technique to solve it.

    5. Have a drain for your flat roof

To avoid damage and other problems, it’s best that you have a drain for your flat roof, apart from installing a slope.
