The Dreaded Dead Battery. Don’t Throw It Away Just Yet!

  • There comes the dreaded moment when you put your key into the ignition of your vehicle, turn it and nothing happens. Naturally, we must repeat this at least three to five time before we admit defeat and realize that the battery in our car has seen its last sunrise.

You may be able to give it a jump to give it just enough power to get to the auto parts store where you will purchase another battery and send that one off to wherever it is that they take them.

But have you ever thought of taking that battery home with you? The next time this happens you may want to consider it and the reasons aren't really that surprising once you think about it.

There is a way, but it takes a long time, to refurbish open cell batteries. I do not know particulars but I know of a shop that buys used and dead batteries. They have a bank of batteries always on racks, being replated with lead? Electroplating would require lead in a solution and running current through it possibly reversing the direction? While I do not know specifics, it often works, and they resell these refurbished batteries. Anyone know the proper set up and chemical process? Wonder if they clean first by electrostripping to get a clean surface to replate?
