The Device That Could Save a Life- Even Without Cell Service

  • Don't worry I have my cell phone is not the most comforting thing to hear when someone you love is going somewhere that while exciting can be dangerous. Cell phones are reliant on cell reception and no matter what company you have it only extends so far. This is also true of the current devices on the market that notifies your loved ones if you are in trouble- they rely on cell phone signal.

And none of that matters if you are unconscious!

So let's take a look at a new device called PhiPAL.

PhiPAL uses an accelerometer and a countdown, but if you’re out of cell range, it can hook onto a satellite signal, ensuring that your emergency contact receives your location.

Once the device hits retailers there will be two options that you can purchase. The first option or basic model is like the others of its kind as it relies on cell service, however, the Pro Version

The base version of the product connects only to a cell tower, just like ICEdot, and will cost $150 when it hits retail. The Pro version, on the other hand, talks to a satellite and will cost $300. It will also require a $120 annual subscription for the satellite connection. That’s a high price tag but still cheaper than the $150 subscription cost of Spot’s Satellite S.O.S. system. And unlike PhiPAL, the Spot requires that you’re physically able to use its emergency button to send for help.

From what we can tell if you are an avid outdoorsmen, Then the second option is GREAT and probably a wise investment. If you're only out occasionally there may be products better suited for your needs.
