Survival 101: Why You Need a Survival Staff

  • It May Look Like a Plain Old Walking Stick, But It Has More Uses Than You Might Imagine!

As veterans of the survival/prepper lifestyle know, it's often the simplest, most basic items that are the most useful…particularly when you're in the wild without modern technology and tools, or if a SHTF situation occurs and you have to improvise just in order to survive. However, you may not have thought about the importance and versatility of a survival staff, which you may know better as a walking stick.

There are many ways to make a staff, but hardwoods (also called deciduous) typically work best. Choose small treest just a few inches in diameter that are easy to take down with a basic saw or maybe a hatchet or machete. Once you've taken down the tree, you need to remove the branches, which you can usually do with a small saw. And then you have a staff! See, it's really quite easy, which makes it a practical and essential piece of survival and outdoor gear.
