Making a Bottle Prison is Simple & Effective

  • For one bottle jail I ordered online:

    • two 12x12cm 3mm thick aluminum sheets
    • 160 nuts (M6)
    • 4m of threaded end (M6)

(Just to be safe you should order everything double, so you can make another one and have spare parts if something doesn't work out the way you want)

    You will also need:

    • file tool
    • a hacksaw
    • a drill (6mm)
    • a bottle Jack Daniels 0,7l (obviously)
    • a ruler
    • glue
    • a lasercutter (optional)

The total costs of the materials (excluding the bottle itself) is around 27 dollars.

First place the bottle and the nuts on the sheet to check and see how many prison bars you will need to make.

(this project took 12 bars )

Draw twelve dots onto one aluminum sheet and drilled the holes with the corresponding dots. Next you will put the other sheet under the one that is drilled so the holes will line up perfectly. One you have done that drill again and this should get them as close to perfect as you can.

Now you will want to get rid of any sharp or harsh edges. You want to keep the bottle safe not slice someone's hand open (or your own) when you try to open the cage.

Once you have filed the edges you will want to drill a hole in the middle of the upper sheet for the box that will cover everything.

The threaded end bars came in 1-meter parts, so I sawed them into 33 cm pieces and tried to put everything together. The nuts under the bottom sheet are glued, otherwise, you could just spin those off and open the jail.

Optional: Using a laser cutter and the program Box designer (http://boxdesigner.connectionlab.org/) I made a box to put over the top, for a little extra challenge, and a little box as a bottom to prevent the nuts from scratching the table. I glued the boxes together and spray painted them black. The box on the bottom is glued to the bottom nuts to make sure everything stays in place.

Now all you have to do is screw the nuts in place and put the box over it, finish up but securing the last couple of nuts and viola – you are done and your bottles are safe!

In fact, the only way any bottle is getting stolen is if they go to the trouble of unscrewing all of the nuts and bolts used to build this! That little fact makes it the perfect gift for anyone on your list!

This is amazing and I will be making a few of these myself. I may even give them out as gifts this year as I know quite a few people who would enjoy them!
