Learn How to Prevent Spinout and Stay Safe on the Roads

  • Here is a couple of issues that are the most common causes of spinout. Keep these in mind when you drive in hazardous conditions to keep yourself (and other drivers) safe.

    1. Problem: Loss of Traction
To keep the rear end from breaking loose at a bend in the road as shown at right, apply the brakes before entering the curve. Then, release the brakes and turn the steering wheel. That done, keep the vehicle in a straight line and accelerate. More throttle at this point transfers weight to the rear tires, improving traction.

The second common issue that causes spinout is a loss of steering. It may be tempting to hit the brakes and turn the wheel, even more, to keep your vehicle from spinning out when you hit a curve, but this strategy will just cause you to skid. Instead, lightly push down the brakes which improve traction by transferring the weight to the front tires.
