Fire Craft for Survival

  • The ability to create fire is one of the fundamental skills any experienced survivalist will have mastered. A strong fire not only yields heat and is a means to cook raw food, but its smoke furnishes a distress signal and can provide location details when in a bind.

    Movies give us the idea that the only way to build a fire is by rubbing sticks and dry grass together. In reality, there are several other methods to build and maintain a longstanding fire. In addition, we can often bring the materials with us into the wild so we don't need to frantically search for flammable products in nature as the sun goes down. As with any survival skill, it's necessary to practice with these methods ahead of time so that when you're in the middle of nature and needing that fire, you won't need to panic.
