A Sturdy, Portable DIY Clothesline That’s Perfect For Camping

  • Since this clothesline is designed to be taken with you, it’s lightweight and portable. The only important thing is to make sure you use stainless steel, aluminum or titanium in order to avoid rusting. Even if you don’t go camping, this clothesline works well for those that live on a homestead!

    Step 1: Materials

    Materials

    • Elastic stretch cord 3/16 (4.8 mm) in diameter and 10 feet (3 m) long
    • Stainless steel wire clothespins
    • Stainless steel, aluminum or titanium carabiners
    • Scissors

    Step 2: Assembly

    Assembly

Assembly is easy. Start by cutting the elastic stretch cord to the desired length. Use a match or lighter to melt the nylon exterior at the cut end of the stretch cord to prevent fraying.

Then, simply run the elastic stretch cord through the center of the clothes pins. This keeps the clothes pins attached to the line so the clothes line is easy to store and retrieve.

Next, tie each end of the elastic stretch cord to a carabiner. Use a square knot to keep the knot secure.

    Step 3: Deployment

    Deployment

Setting up the portable clothesline is easy. Just fasten the end of the stretch cord around an object such as a tree and then do the same for the other end. Hang out your washed items and relax!

    Step 4: Storage

    Storage

Once your washed items are dry and you are ready to move on, unfasten the clothesline, roll it up and put it away.

Have you made this portable clotheslines? Did you use it on a camping trip?
