In preparation for the unexpected, it's always a good idea to stockpile things that you know are going to benefit you in the long run.
Obviously, things like food and water are good resources to have. A way to bring light and heat to your home, weapons for self-defense and a set of emergency supplies in the event anyone is injured or sick.
But there is one item that many people don't think of. I often get weird looks whenever i mention it but after explaining it people understand and begin stockpiles of their own.
That item that I am referring to is BLEACH.
So after the break, I will show you why it's a good idea to have this item handy and what you can do with it should you need it.

Unless you remove it from the plastic container and place it in a sealed glass container, the chlorine gas in solution will leach through the plastic bleach container and just end up being water.
We just dumped two gallons yesterday from my mother in laws house that was old and pure water.
I opt for vinegar instead.
Bleach is not a necessity andbin many cases what you do with it you can do with vinegar that you can make for hourslf
Stockpiling bleach is wasteful. It goes neutral after a few months (basically turns into salt water). You’re better off stockpiling calcium hypochlorite in dry form and making it as you need it.
I stock pile bleach and rotate it as I use it. Never had an issue with it turning to water or whatever. Never had the plastic corrode and it leak. Agreed! I use bleach to clean the boat, when washing dishes and prepping countertops to butcher to clean ice chests, etc.

I thought bleach was terrible for the environment and water supply? Vinegar and baking soda, peroxide and all natural disinfectants are what I would rather have in my home.

Rhe shelf life of Bleach has very limited time. What is the solution to have it store for a long time frame.
From what I understand either one will work, but I use calcium hypochlorite. Use 1 heaping teaspoon of 78% calcium hypochlorite to 2 gallons water gives you a 5.35% concentration of bleach.
The expiration date on the bottle is when the potency of the bleach has reached its half life, and no longer considered effective.
Water purification tablets are best for storage and longevity.
Sunshine is still a great disinfectant for bed sheets and clothing.
Weeds are unwanted plants. Learn what each plant can offer, and decide if it’s really worth killing. We often kill what can help us because we don’t understand it’s purpose.
Bleach has an expiration date. Pool SHOCK is the way to go, diluted accordingly.
Been told the strength lessens after 6 months, so no use in stock piling longer than that.. (Don’t know if that is true)

I agree with Benjamin, calcium hypochlorite is a much better choice , sodium hypochlorite ( liquid bleach) degrades quickly after about 5 years on the shelf turns into salt water.

But it does become weaker over time. Not sure what the time frame is but use it at work once in a while. The older bottles are not as effective.

Granulated swimming pool chlorine, Pool Shock.. neither ever go bad, kept sealed. One bag of Pool Shock will do 10k gallons and is $3 at Walmart.

Why should I do that
Can’t stockpile more then cycling what you use. It breaks down and loses effectiveness over time. One year after purchase is a good target to use by.

bleach has a 1 year shelf-life. pool shock or granulated pool chlorine works and Lasts much longer.
