4 Simple Steps to a DIY Charcoal Chimney

  • Now that you are ready to get that fire going let's look at one way you can not only recycle but also get that fire going without the use of lighter fluid! We are going to look at two ways to do this. One way uses cartons the other is a more permanent fire starter made from an old can.

First, you will need to gather everything together. You should have most if not all of this stuff laying around your house already.

    SUPPLIES

    • Juice carton or milk carton
    • Church key opener
    • Newspaper or paper
    • Charcoal

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Take your empty juice carton and cut the top off.

    2. Create air vents along the bottom of the carton using a church key (or anything that will cut).

    3. Place crumpled paper at the bottom and fill it up with coals.

    4. Place it on the bottom of your grill and light the carton on fire from the bottom. 5. Let the fire do its thing and let the whole thing burn. You may need to adjust the coals if the carton falls apart. Once your coals are white on the outside they are good to go!

Now let's take a look at one that is a bit more permanent.

There you have it. Both of these options work great and are super simple builds. I personally use the one made of cartons as It's a useful way to get rid of our cartons of juice that we purchase so I simply rinse them out and once they are dry I store them for this use.

Have you made anything of this nature before? If so how did it go? Let us know in the comments below.
