10 Things to Make Sure Are On Your Survival Food Checklist

  • So what are the ten things that you need to stock up on in order to ensure your food supply lasts? Here are some things to get at the local supermarket.

    RICE:

One of the first things that you want to stock up on is rice. The long shelf life of rice makes it perfect for stocking up on. The normal shelf life is 10 years if stored properly. The high carbs are important for any sort of survival situation.

    BEANS

No survival list would be complete without mentioning beans. This food is a staple in any prepper food pantry. They also stay good for up to 10 years if sealed in an airtight container and placed in there with a bit of dry ice.

    CORNMEAL

While flour may be good there are some benefits to cornmeal. If ground down properly it can be used to make cornbread and tortillas. If all you have is flour you will also need to stock things such as oil and eggs.

    LARD:

I know that this sounds…well gross but it does have its purpose. Not only does it offer the high calorie that you need but it also is usable more than once and keeps much longer than non-hydrogenated oils.

    SALT:

Salt is amazing for not only curing beef but also for storing foods and adding flavor.

    CANNED VEGGIES & FRUITS

These are obvious and usually, the first thing that people think of when they think of stocking up on survival foods, however, there are some downsides. These cans can tend to be heavy and bulky and not suitable in large quantities if you are on the move a lot.

    CANNED MEAT

Many people don't consider canned meat to be something they would want to eat but when you are in survival mode you will settle for anything other than field rat. These cans of meat are high in protien and are storable for 6-10 years.

    SUGAR

While this isn't one of the more vital survival items its nice to have and can store for a long time. Another alternative is honey which is great and lasts forever.

    PASTA

Pasta is a great thing to have as it keeps for a long time and is a great source of carbs.

    PEANUT BUTTER

Peanut butter is not only an amazing snack but it is super packed with protein and fats that will help keep you sustained throughout the day. Peanut butter is also long lasting and in a root cellar conditions, it can last up to five years.

These items are all stuff you can purchase “as you go,” waiting for sales or buying in bulk when it is appropriate.

They also do not take up a ton of room, unless you are that first type of survivalist and anticipating a scenario that could alter life as we know it for months and even years.
