This Is Our Definition of Family-Friendly!
Aquaponics is a system that combines the science of aquaculture, or raising fish, with hydroponics, or growing plants in water instead of in soil. Merging these two systems is cool and efficient because the waste the fish produce provides nourishment for the plant life. Plus, the plants act as a natural filter for the water, which keeps the fish healthy and their environment clean. How awesome is that?
You can buy pricey aquaponics systems, but that's not necessary because you can make your DIY version that works just as well and is much cheaper. Plus, it's so easy to make that it's a fun project that's perfect for a DIY novice. We like this as a project the whole family can do together, and in fact, this DIY aquaponics system works best for something on a smaller scale, such as for use in a classroom.
