How To Remove a Tree Stump Using Epsom Salt

  • I will start off by saying that while this process is natural it is not a very quick process but I highly recommend it.

So, when looking at using this method to remove a tree trunk you will want to make sure that the tree trunk is cut as close to the ground as possible. It does not have to be fully ground down but getting cut close to the ground is your best bet.

Then you will be drilling 3/8 holes into the tree trunk with each hole being as deep as you can make them but 10 inches into the ground seems to be the average number.

Fill each hole to the rim with Epsom Salt. Using your hand, rub the salt over the hole and push it down into the hole to make sure that it's full.

Next, sprinkle some Epsom salt around the edge of the stump.

Once you have done that, using a blue tarp (or any color tarp we just had blue) cover the stump to keep any water from getting onto the salt and washing it away. This trick also helps to keep the heat in the stump and root system and aids in the decomposition.

Now here is where you will have to have some patience as we said before, this process is natural will take about three months to have the entire thing decompose however if you have lived with that stump there for years what is three more months.

Powdered chlorine works great. Drill holes…pour it in…water…wait a few months…bush hog it…

This really works! Ours took a year. Landscapers wanted $200 to take out the stump!
