So the first thing you will need to do is choose the level of “hotness” for your pepper spray. There are many levels of “hot” to choose from but we recommend something in the medium range which would be your cayenne peppers which range anywhere from 10,000-30,000 SHU. And for those of you who don't know SHU stands for Scoville Heat Units and is how all heat is measured in peppers.

If you feel that isn't hot enough for you then the next level up would be the Haberano peppers which range from 80,000-200,000 SHU. Anything above that and you are getting into some of the hottest peppers in the world and while you can use them the cayenne or haberanos should do the trick.

Now what you will need to do is get a bottle that can spray liquid. You can find these at any DIY store or local superstore. Before you use the bottle you will want to inspect it and test it out. Make sure that it does not have any leaks as this could cause issues for you. Make sure that the spray is what you want and reaches a good distance that makes you feel comfortable.
