As it turns out Sharon is in the early stages of Demita so when she did not arrive on time the following Sunday her family immediately began to worry. Her nephew Bob Stewart decided to go out and look for her driving the same route that she would take on her way back home.
As he was doing so he found a tree with a large piece of stripped off bark that was on the highway. Fearing the worst he pulled over to investigate and that is when he heard yelling.
Due to the nature of her injuries, Sharon was trapped in her car unable to move. She had damaged her knee, heel, ankle and a ruptured chest. Per Sharon, she had spent days trying to signal for anyone's attention. She laid on the horn until the battery of the car died and it was then that she would continuously yell for help.
Over the course of her 5-day ordeal, she survived off of two bananas and small amounts of bottled water. She also had a box of Pop Tarts but said she feared choking on them so she did not consume them.
“Her back is broken in 5 places, her ankle is broken, her heel is crushed, a bone underneath her knee is broken, as well as several broken ribs,”
She was airlifted from the scene where she was taken to a near by hospital.
In hearing about this instance I have to think of ways to prepare my own vehicle should such an occurrence happen to me or my loved ones.
