  • There are so many ways that we can heat our homes. It seems that every day there is a new and improved way or someone is boasting that they have found the end all answer to heating. Truth being told in areas where it gets bitter cold not only do you need a main source of heat but you also need at least two backup plans.

    Kerosene is a fuel source that while rugged it is probably one of the best fuels to have in a survival situation and kerosene heaters should be towards the top of the list of survival must have list.

      In a survival situation a person should be able to make their own fuel from plastics. The best plastic to use is HDPE because it is pure hydrocarbon. Yes it would require some prepping before SHTF but a simple pyrolysis rig can be built from a pressure cooker and miscellaneous piping. Don’t forget the noble gas or you’re gonna have a bad time.

      Lets see, we have the furnace, a small generator, a larger generator, a third generator that runs on gas or propane and is strong enough to run our electric fireplace with the heat function, a second furnace, and a space heater that runs on propane and has a liw oxygen or tip over shut off. I think we’re covered.
