The first thing you will want to do is make sure that you have the correct tools. Making an ax is slightly different than other metalworking that you may have previously encountered due to the steel that is used to make the blade.

Blades are tricky. The initial shaping can be time-consuming since you're using higher carbon steel. Then there's the tempering and hardening. Add to that a little forge-welding and you've got your weekend blocked off.
