Lessons Learned from First-Hand Accounts of Lightning Strike Victims

  • If you spend a certain amount of time in nature, then you're bound to have an unusual experience with it. That experience might even be life-threatening. A big part of why we need to spend time prepping prior to our adventure in the wilderness is because of its unpredictability. We could be faced with any number of scenarios that require common sense, a sound mind and resourcefulness.

    For example, if you were far from shelter, what would you do if you saw lightning near your location? Many people use counting tricks to determine how far away the lightning actually is, but that doesn't guarantee your safety. Unfortunately, there are people who have been directly in the path of lightning and have luckily lived to tell their story. We can use their first-hand account as a reminder that thunder storms and lightning are just as dangerous as coming face-to-face with a bear.
