How To Build an Eco Friendly House For Less Than a Few Hundred Dollars

  • I never thought it was possible!

When I was told that I could build my own house for only a few hundred dollars I laughed. Then I looked at my mortgage and thought hmmm, what if it is possible which would I rather have? Then I was told that it would be eco-friendly and I was all but sold!

Anyone can learn how and you don’t require fancy equipment or a team of workers in order to do it. The structures withstand even harsh environmental climates.

The method is cob building. The word cob comes from an old English root meaning a lump or rounded mass. Cob building uses hands and feet to form lumps of earth mixed with sand and straw, a sensory and aesthetic experience similar to sculpting with clay.

This means you can get in touch with nature while building your home. For those of us into homesteading and living off-grid, this is a very appealing. I’d much rather use Mother Nature and the help of my family or friends to create my own home just the way I like it. Play in the mud with loved ones while we build an awesome house? Yes please! It just resonates so much more than hiring a big, expensive team of construction workers to spend months or even years on a home that is just like everyone else’s house. If you have kids, they could all get involved in the process since it is so easy.
