  • Do you know how to start a fire? The ability to do so is one of the most difficult, but crucial, skills for an survivalist to learn. It can be tough enough to build and maintain a fire when everything is dry much less when it's wet. Let's face it, weather and nature are unpredictable so being overly prepared is the name of the game for a survivalist. Without heat, we can't cook food, prevent hypothermia or ward off predators.

    Let's say you're comfortable with building and maintaining a fire on a calm and dry day. That's great! However, the chances of needing a fire increase during the colder months when snow and sleet is likely to be present. Though some of us might love the coziness of winder wonderland or a rainy day, it doesn't bode well for a fire. Even during the warmer months, we're likely to face summer showers that creep up on us. We have to learn to be adaptable as survivalists.
