I often wonder if our ancestors knew something that we don't know. They survived the harshest of conditions with less technology, less money, and less well….everything. They had to find ways to get food, keep it fresh and stay warm all without the use of modern day gadgets.
I often say that many people would not be able to survive today if we had to live as they did. I know that in fact would be miserable at least until I adjusted because society has us addicted to our modern day devices. We can stay warm, stay cool raise the humidity or drop it all at the push of a button. Heck, even me and my husband have different temperatures for each side of the bed. Mine is cooler while his is warmer.
So how did they do it? How did they stay warm in the coldest of winters? Well, I have compiled a list of 8 ways they battled the cold. So take a look and let us know if you know of any additional ways they may have survived the fridged temps.

Thunder mug under the bed …..the memories..lol
My ancestors had large families….I think I know what they did to stay warm :0
Soap stone heated on the stove and placed in the bed stayed warm for quite a while
A hot brick wrapped in flannel at the foot of the bed
They also had a lot of fires. Now I see why 🙂
