If you live in the rural parts of the north, or at least north enough to where the snow can actually accumulate on the ground, then you may have noticed homes that seem to be within a few feet of being buried in mounds of snow.

While yes the constant snowfall may play some part in all of this there's also the chance that these people have long figured out what the rest of the north has not, and that is the art of snow banking.

I personally had no knowledge of what this actually was until my mother, born and raised in North Dakota, filled me in on this ingenious thought process.
