Build an Outdoor Canning Kitchen for Less Than $100

  • If you have experience gardening, then you know how rewarding and convenient it can be to have your own produce in your yard. You can grab fresh flowers, several tomatoes and a handful of basil for your dinner party without ever having to step foot in a grocery store. And if part of your garden includes fruit, then spring and summer is the perfect time to start picking as they reach their peak ripeness. You wish you could eat all the fruit in time, but sometimes there's too much for you to enjoy so you turn to canning.

Canning gives you the option to preserve your fruit in its most ripe form. You can then enjoy it as you wish without having to worry about it going bad. The only downside is that canning typically takes place when it's the hottest outside and because it requires heat from your stove, it can be an uncomfortable activity to complete. So, an outdoor kitchen is an alternative. You can complete the canning process outside without heating up your home during the warmest time of year.

I’ve never done any canning outside; is there a concern about hot glass jars being exposed to a cool breeze?
