Alabama Couple Says Their Baby Was Taken From Them Because Of Their Off Grid Lifestyle

  • Christian and Danielle Holm just wanted to raise their child the best way they knew how. Their long held Christian beliefs dictated that they raise their child according to a specific religious tradition. They were expectant, happy and looking forward to continuing their off grid lifestyle with a little one in tow. Sadly they would not get that chance.

Just one day after the birth of their child Christian and Danielle Holm of Heflin, Alabama report that their baby was taken from them by a social worker. According to the parents, this decision was based on their alternative lifestyle and religious tradition. Heavy accusations for a country that is supposed to be founded on religious tolerance and acceptance.

This situation has brought up a tense subject regarding the reach of government as well as the requirement of birth certificates and social security numbers. According to the Holm's in the State of Alabama, it is not a requirement but it was their refusal to issue their child a social security number that created this situation. so let's take a look at page two and the details of this story and see what you think about the topic.

Lots of retired people selling homes and getting RVs to travel and live off the grid. Not a bad thing. And SSN, it is automatic in most states. Give them their baby back.

Off the grid means housing not connected to public utilities – And, yes, there are different ways to maintain a Facebook account living off the grid…

There has to be more to the story as families have lived off the grid for quite some time.

I’ve followed this case since it began. It’s not at all about homesteading. The parents are missionaries, they were just passing through that area when mama went in to labor. They did not intend to birth in a hospital at all, but being a first child the parents got scared and called for backup. Baby was originally taken because of mistaken identity. Hospital officials thought their names were too similar to people wanted out of Arizona. When they were fingerprinted and cleared, state of Alabama came up with new reasons to keep the baby. Religion has been a big part of it. These parents own a home in their home state, they also rented a home in Alabama trying to get him back. The state has refused. 4 judges have recused themselves from the case. It’s been nearly a year, baby has never once been in his parents custody. No possible abuse or neglect. This case is about the federal dollars states get for seizing and adopting children, and the fact that a healthy, white, newborn male is highly sought after by adoptive parents.

Off the grid can mean a cabin with no connection to utilities but the article says they lived by camping as they traveled i.e. Homeless. Big deference

This is wrong it’s fine for these so called refugees to gang rape our kids and get away with it. But people how wants to live simply loses their kids. Are they afraid too many of us will do it that would mean they lose money . They lose control over them because this kids are not brainwashed by all the garbage that’s put out. This shows we the people must get government under control, they have let their position go to their heads.

They aren’t harming the baby, it’s their choice to live off the grid. GOP wants to tell you how to live your life, and be under their thumb!!!

Government over reach. What a crime against this family. There is nothing wrong with wanting to live in nature. Our ancestors did it and children survived.

Every civilized nation must have rules and guidelines. It is like the people who refuse to immunize their children, or offer their children for marriage because of their religion. If we allow one religion an exemption, then we must allow an exemption to all.

Because all children born in America become slaves to the state at birth and must have ” papers ” socialism finest hour ! Can’t stamp a child with a number and use it’s credit score added to others to let the gov borrow money in its name to be paid by the slaves wages until the slave is no longer useful. Or some rich folks wanted a baby and the state found one and took it . Lots of money in selling babies or their parts after an abortion. And when someone dares to not walk the socialist path and let the gov run their life it’s family destroying time ! Make an example of these people and watch every other family get in line and never stray from the path and be your self! We have been sold a lie . When a 100,00.00 dollar house cost 250,00.00 before your finished paying for it who doesn’t want to live off the grid? Don’t stop fighting for your baby or your freedom. Quit talking about your life and plans and just do it . Quit answering stupid questions that gov asks and make your own decisions!

Apparently if you aren’t Amish you MUST have a social security number so you can be a slave to the state.

A brief check on the inter webs reveals that they nearly killed the child trying to deliver it by themselves in a national park, called for help after two days of labor. Were not forthcoming about their identities and refused a birth certificate for the child. Had no means to care for the child. Some question of mental health issues. Refused efforts by the courts to resolve the issue, instead claimed sovereign citizen rights to the child. Gave up entirely six months ago and abandoned the child.

So, maybe not the outrage pron you were hoping for.

    25. Mike Jackson said:

There’s more to the story. Just how “off grid” were they? So off grid that they didn’t have a home, warm environment? It can’t be that they didn’t want the social security number, Amish are guilty of that. “Religious” beliefs, refusing medical car? Jehovah’s witnesses do that. If I had to guess, there’s definitely more to the story.

Our children belong to who? Our lifestyle is who’s business? But if you don’t bow down to the king, your in big trouble. To hell with the king I say!

    27. Jeff George said:

From a poster on the story Skip: Not saying it’s right, but they weren’t living off grid like we normally think of in a cabin or something. They traded their home and were living a “camping and hiking” lifestyle. No permanent shelter. That’s called “homeless.” No source of income it sounds like.

To the state, they removed a baby from a homeless couple with no income or resources in the middle of winter. A situation that lead to a high infant mortality rate throughout history, and even today.
