These are The 5 Things Professional Survivalist Say Are Totally Ridiculous

  • There are some things that people believe that we often wonder “What were you thinking!”

When it comes to prepping we do so much research and we take heed to most of what we are told. That way, should the day ever come when our skills are put to the test we will have an advantage over those who sat back and did nothing but trust that others would take care of them should the need arise.

Throughout history, we can read account after account of people who went to great lengths to prepare and accounts of those who did not. In fact, recently there was an account of a man who put a large air tube around his house in the event of massive rains that were said to be headed his way and even as others scoffed at his paranoia his property was saved and his family was saved as his neighbor’s houses flooded and their possessions lost.

But how do we separate the good advice from the bad? The legit tips and tricks from the ones that are just plain silly? How do we know what will really happen?

To give you a better idea of what to expect, go over to the next page and read up on a more down to Earth view of what will happen once the grid goes down.

Two simple words! These two words say it all and can mean life or death even if you have prepared wisely. SITIUATIONAL AWARENESS! All the prep. in the world will not save you if you fail to know what is happening at all times. Many eyes, much knowledge, and many hands, (as in tribe, as I believe in) make you so much more able to constantly evaluate your situation and take appropriate actions. Think of yourself in a squad or perhaps a platoon. All think as one for the good of all! This is no guarantee of your survival but I will put my money on a tribal concept any day of the week. Consider this. For every mountain man who attempted to go it alone, the majority of them ended in obscurity because they failed. Will you ultimately fail? I can not say. Jerimiah Johnson is a wonderful story but set in a different time with different values. 50 years ago a study was conducted in Washington state with a good sized group to test their survival capabilities in the wild. It failed in short order. The number one reason was no one could keep a fire going in the wet conditions they chose to do the experiment in. Poor planning or impossible? Poor planning or not adequately trained, each applies. Many eyes, much knowledge and many hands! Good policy, in my opinion. Survival ends in failure much like a small business usually ends in failure. FAILURE TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS YOU INTEND TO SUCCEED IN! Undercapitalization is the second biggest cause. This too will contribute to ones’ failure. Plan wisely my friends.

What happens when the power goes out for 24 hours or more? There’s a rush on bottled water, bread, any available gas, generators etc. most of the population isn’t prepared for a local emergency, let alone a catastrophic one. Look at the communities that have had to shutdown recently because people riot for getting their feelings hurt. People don’t care about their neighbors, communities or cities like they use to. The only thing keeping us civil are the conveniences we have like power, water, internet etc. If those fail, there is no way to know how society will react until it’s too late.

Being able to be in the woods, Alaskan, I find both your wood analogies annoying, as well as the shoot first….I agree with don’t shoot first, but total collapse where I’m in the sticks, I’m not going to worry about deputy dipshit
